The Sparks Police Department will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence checkpoint tonight. Officers will be checking for impaired drivers as well as seat belt and car seat violations.

As of June 25 of this year, the Sparks Police Department has made 215 DUI related arrests. Of those 215 arrests, 183 involved accidents.

“By conducting this checkpoint we hope to not only apprehend any impaired drivers in the area,” Sgt. Pat Dyer said. “But also to reduce the number of accidents and educate the driving public on the dangers of drinking and driving, and operating a vehicle without using a seat belt or proper child restraints.”
