Lindsey Pengelly broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 58th minute. Her Cougars teammate, senior Laura Voss, added an insurance goal in the 70th minute thanks to an assist from Pengelly.
“I felt pretty good about it,” Spanish Springs coach Mike Faker said. “We’ve been trying to play a type of soccer that will be best for our personnel and tonight there was definite signs of that. There’s still a lot to work on. We’re super young.”
Spanish Springs hosts Galena Saturday at 1 p.m.
•At Reed, the host Raiders dropped a 2-0 decision to HDL rival Reno.
The visiting Huskies scored in the 20th and 57th minutes to take the triumph.
“They came in and were bigger, stronger and faster than us,” Reed coach Jason Saville said. “They were first to every ball and they were more intense than we were.”
Reed goes to Wooster for a Northern 4A match Saturday at 1 p.m.
