MOUND HOUSE — The Nevada Highway Patrol works diligently to track traffic safety patterns that affect highways in northern Nevada.  Troopers routinely adjust the allocation of their resources in order to address the needs of the motoring public. At times, these adjustments require a more intensive measure, which is the case with the recent string of serious accidents that have occurred on Highway 50 in Mound House.

In order to curtail this trend, the Nevada Highway Patrol will begin a directed enforcement program in the Mound House area.  Beginning Monday, NHP will be directing additional resources to Mound House for this enforcement assignment. As part of the plan, there will be at least one trooper on patrol between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. At most times, expect to see several troopers patrolling Highway 50 between Dayton and Deer Run Road. Though the focus will be to significantly reduce the frequency of hazardous driving, speeding and intoxicated drivers, troopers are directed to strictly enforce all laws.

This concerted effort by the Nevada Highway Patrol will last for two weeks.  Troopers will compile statistics from their enforcement activity for this period, which will include number of traffic stops, speeding citations, hazardous moving citations and DUI arrests. Upon completion of this directed enforcement period, statistics of the activity will be released.
