MOUND HOUSE — At about 10 a.m. Wednesday, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were called to an accident on Highway 50 in Mound House, just east of Highland Drive in Lyon County.

Information indicates that a gray 1989 Chevrolet four-door sedan was traveling eastbound on the four-lane highway at a very high rate of speed. The left front of the Chevrolet clipped the right rear of a black Audi four-door sedan that was also traveling eastbound. The driver of the Audi was not injured and he stopped and parked his vehicle in the center turn lane.

After striking the Audi, the Chevrolet veered off the right roadway edge and traveled several hundred feet.  The vehicle came to stop facing in a southwesterly direction.

Initial responders from Lyon County located Thomas G. Froysa, 66, of Silver City, sitting behind the steering wheel.  He was lifted out of his vehicle and CPR was immediately initiated.  Life saving efforts continued until about 10:42 a.m. when Froysa was pronounced dead.

The accident did not block any travel lanes.

The NHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is investigating the accident. Witnesses or anyone with additional information, should contact Trooper Mike Stapledon at 689-4623 regarding case No. NHP-1008180796.
