RENO — On Wednesday at 7:53 a.m., a Nevada Highway Patrol motorcycle trooper was parked on U.S. 395 southbound near South Meadows Parkway.

Using his radar, the trooper tracked a red 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle driving 95 mph in a 65 mph zone.

As the trooper attempted to stop the motorcyclist, the driver of the Kawasaki, Joshua Sexton, 30, of Reno accelerated to elude the trooper. The trooper estimated his speed to be in excess of 120 mph.

Moments later, Sexton drove into the rear of a yellow 2005 Toyota Scion, driven by 52-year-old Kevin McCormick of Reno.

Sexton was ejected from the motorcycle. McCormick lost control of the Scion and struck the cement barrier on the west side of the roadway.

During the collision, a .45 caliber Springfield pistol came out of Sexton’s holster and landed on the northbound side of the freeway.

Both drivers were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center.  Sexton is currently listed in good condition. McCormick has been discharged.  Sexton was informed prior to his transport that he was under arrest for reckless driving.  Sexton will be transported to the Washoe County jail once he is discharged from Renown.
