RENO — Scouts from the Nevada Area Council will return to Reno from the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree on Wednesday.

They will be welcomed in the lobby of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport by parents, family and friends with signs and balloons as they return from a two-week excursion.

The trip began with a tour of Washington, D.C., before attending the national jamboree. More than 50,000 scouts met in Fort A.P. Hill, Va. to celebrate the 100th anniversary of scouting, held from July 26 to Wednesday.

The plane carrying the returning scouts is scheduled to land at 10:30 p.m. The public is invited to join the celebration at Reno-Tahoe International Airport to learn about the scouts’ and leaders’ impressions and experiences.

Locally, the Centennial Council Jamboree will be held Thursday through Saturday. Four thousand scouts, leaders, volunteers and visitors will participate at the fairgrounds complex in Fallon and Fernley. Numerous events, competitions and nightly shows will highlight scouting’s first 100 years.
