RENO — An unemployed Nevada truck driver is scheduled to be executed Aug. 16 for the rape and murder of a 16-year-old Sparks girl.

Washoe County District Judge Connie Steinheimer signed the death warrant Thursday for 32-year-old Tamir Hamilton in the 2008 killing of Holly Quick at the Sparks apartment she shared with her mother.

His public defender, Maize Pusich, says she intends to file a federal appeal, which means the execution likely will be stayed.

Hamilton lost an appeal to the state Surpreme Court in March. He argued that the judge was wrong to bar some evidence he claimed showed he was mentally ill. Experts testified during his trial that he was faking it.

hmmmm 2008 - 2010 That's relatively quick, Nevada. Nice work. This Texan approves. Now . stick to the decision. I doubt the Feds will even hear the case. I hope not.

my hands up. need some other info though. following the trail of "similar stories" above, first the "Doctors differ ----", and then from that story to the "Trial begins ---", the last sentence of that story says Hamilton was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the rape of a UNR student shortly before he murdered Holly. Someone tell me what he was doing on the street?????? PS. The above story says the 2008 killing of Holly. Actually, she was killed in Sept of 2006 and he was convicted in 2008.

This horrific violent crime was only committed in 2008. There's no way we can make this person pay for his crime for at least another 18 years. We need to process his appeals with tax dollars that we don't have, and pay for his food shelter & clothing (plus medical) with tax dollars that we don't have, for at least another couple of decades! Although, from what I understand, poor Holly is required to stay dead during this entire process. Doesn't seem fair somehow? All those in favor of enforcing the sentence immediatly, raise your hand.
