RENO — The Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) hosted the Longest Drive for Charity competition on July 14 as part of the 12th annual Reno-Tahoe Open, an official PGA Tour event. Reno business and individuals contributed money to participate in the longest drive contest with proceeds benefiting the Autism Coalition of Nevada.

The winners of the 2010 Longest Drive for Charity include PGA Tour professional Will McKenzie, driving 420 yards, and the business team Let’s Get It On, which is made up of Tommy Lane, Terry Lane and Mike Chunat, with a combined drive of 965 yards. The individual winner, Chris Lavin sent the ball 440 yards.

For $500 Reno businesses had the opportunity to show off their swing among PGA Tour golf professionals and hit golf balls from atop the 27-story Grand Sierra Resort. Golfers aimed for the Sierra Bay Golf aquatic driving range in front of GSR. The laketop range was specially marked to indicate yardage. The winning business team won a trip for two to Napa Valley wine country.

Individuals also participated in the Longest Drive for Charity for $50. The winner, Lavin, received a one night’s stay in The Summit, GSR’s high-end luxury accommodations, dinner for two at Charlie Palmer Steak at GSR and two VIP Pavilion passes to the Reno-Tahoe Open.

All proceeds benefited the Autism Coalition of Nevada.
