RENO — On Aug. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m., the Animal Ark will host its biggest event of the year. “Out of Africa” offers guests a gala evening of exotic foods, cool refreshments and plenty of fun. Displays of African birds and animals will be on hand as well as a safari-style costume contest, shopping at a Bazaar featuring African and animal themed merchandise, watching the Ark’s three cheetahs — unleashed and running at top speed and raffle prizes.

The business communities of Reno, Sparks, Tahoe and Las Vegas have provided the Animal Ark with more than 50 raffle prizes, with a total value of more than $8,000. Tickets are $10 each or less (depending on quantity purchased) and can be purchased online, by phone or in person. Recipients need not be present to win. If their ticket is drawn during the Out of Africa event, they will be notified the next day of their prize.

Together, this gala and raffle comprise the Animal Ark’s major fundraising effort for the year. The proceeds support the cost of food and medicines for the animals during the months the Animal Ark is closed for the winter, which are November through March.

This unique event takes place at dusk in order to enjoy the glorious sunset over the Sierras as the scenic backdrop for the gala.
