Odd Bakken was traveling north on Rock Boulevard in his gold, 1983 Nissan Maxima when he tried to make a left turn onto Hymer Avenue. A Toyota pickup truck was coming south on Rock Boulevard and hit Bakken’s station wagon before Bakken could clear the intersection.
The truck pushed Bakken into southwest corner of Rock and Hymer, pinning the man between a light pole and the wreckage of his car. The Sparks Fire Department extricated the man and took him to Renown Regional Medical Center.
Prior to his death, Bakken was on a ventilator and had a broken leg.
The crash occurred on the man’s 82nd birthday.
