SPANISH SPRINGS — The Spanish Springs Citizen Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. tonight to discuss several issues, including wildfire preparedness and building and safety programs.

The board will receive a presentation from Don Jeppson from the Washoe County Building and Safety Department about two new programs. These programs include Got Permits?, which has been implemented to educate the public about the permit process and importance of required permits. Also, Jeppson will explain the Residential Amnesty Program. The program, which started May 1 and goes to Oct. 31, allows residents who have started projects without the appropriate permits to obtain the permits without additional fees or fines.

After the building office’s presentation, the CAB also will hear from Grant Nejedlo from the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension about a free workshop on fire adapted communities. The workshop will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 21 at the Sparks Fire Department station No. 5 at 6490 Vista Blvd. The purpose of the workshop is to educate the public about fire preparedness as well as to encourage communities to work together to

prevent fires.

The CAB will be asking the public for input about possible pedestrian and bicycle projects within the county’s maintained public areas.

In additions to presentations and input from the public, the board will elect members for its chair, vice chair and secretary for the 2010-11 term.

The CAB meets at 7 p.m. tonight at the Lazy 5 Community Center located at 7100 Pyramid Way in Spanish Springs.
