Sparks Police cite 502 drivers during “Click It or Ticket” patrols

Sparks Police Department issued 502 citations and/or made arrests during a “Click It or Ticket” campaign during the month of May.

The campaign was funded by the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety and focused on the enforcement of seat belt violations.

From May 1 through 15, the focus was on teenage seat belt violators. The following citations were issued during that time by officers working under the grant.

• DUI: 2

• Driver’s license violations: 15

• Adult seat belt citations: 74

• Insurance citations: 34

• Teen seat belt citations: 40

• Reckless driving citations 7

• Child seat citations: 6

• Miscellaneous citations: 85

• Speeding citations: 74

• Warnings issued: 57

From May16, through May 31, the focus was on adult seat belt violations. The following citations were issued during that time by officers working under the grant.

• DUI: 2

• All seat belt violations: 52

• Miscellaneous citations: 114

• Fugitives from justice: 2

A total of 502 citations and/or arrests were made during this campaign with 172 citations for seat belt related violations. Many drivers were using their seat belts when stopped for other offenses. Even though the “Click it or Ticket” campaign is over, the Sparks Police Department will still issue citations to those drivers stopped for other violations and found not wearing their seat belt.
