Friends of Harry Reid, the senator’s campaign organization, created a faux website to mirror an old version of Angle’s official one. The site, www.therealsharronangle.com, was taken down following the order. It has since been reposted under the same domain name, but with a different design.
Angle claims the website imitates her original campaign site before it was redesigned last week. In addition to the copyright infringements, Angle also alleges the site solicited the e-mail addresses of her supporters under false pretenses.
The order, dated July 2 and prepared by Angle’s legal counsel, claims Reid’s camp created the site and that it “misappropriates copyrighted and proprietary materials and information under the guise of appearing to be the official website of the Angle campaign.”
A press release on Reid’s official campaign website claims that the legal action was threatened “for resurrecting Angle’s pre-primary, pre-scrubbed website — quoting her radical agenda in her exact words without edit — to illustrate the extent to which she has tried to hide her dangerous plans like eliminating Social Security and abolishing the Department of Education.”
Angle spokesperson Jerry Stacy called the conflict politics as usual.
“You’re going to see a lot of dirty tricks like that from Reid’s campaign,” he said in a release.
