The Sparks girls basketball team suffered through another one-sided loss in a losers’ bracket battle at the McQueen holiday tournament Tuesday.

Fallon made Sparks its latest victim, rolling over the Railroaders 59-12 in the tournament tilt.

Sparks wraps up tournament action today at 8 a.m. The Railroaders, who lost the their tournament opener, 32-12 to Dayton Monday, fell to 1-5 with the defeat.

“Fallon is just as big but not as quick as Dayton, but they are disciplined and good,” Sparks coach Tony Shaw said. “Defensively, I thought we played pretty well again today, but the score was not indicative of that. But all the kids did what they were asked. We’re just not confident on the offensive end. We’ve got to find a way to score some points.”

The game was never close as Fallon cruised to a 16-2 lead after the first period. The Greenwave extended its edge to 24-6 by halftime.

The struggling Sparks offense did not score more than four points in a quarter Tuesday.

Amanda Clark and Chelsea Harris both scored 4 points for Sparks while Gabby Diaz and Maria Rodriguez each added 2.

Shaw saw his club’s offensive woes are not limited to one area.

“We turn the ball over quite a bit and we work on passing every day, but we also can’t finish around the basket,” he said. “We just have to keep working on it. Hopefully the light will go on at some point.”

On the flip side, Fallon had some offensive balance. The Greenwave saw three players reach double figures in the scoring column. Alex Faught scored 15 points to lead the Churchill County squad. Kenyah Brown and Lauren Whitaker added 11 and 10 points respectively for Fallon.

The Greenwave, which dropped a disappointing game to Truckee Monday, improved to 7-4 by dumping the Railroaders.

“We played with a little more intensity today. We bounced back. We always do, but that’s the tough part; we’re on a roller-coaster ride,” Fallon coach Chelle Dalager said.
