Bloom allegedly was skimming money from the petty cash drawer. Police also allege that Bloom asked lifeguard instructor students to pay for their course with checks written to her name. When the students complained that they did not receive their certificates after successfully completing the course, police linked the incident to Bloom.
Police found that the students never were officially registered in the class but completed the course and gave payment to Bloom.
The facility manager was placed on administrative leave on May 19 when coworkers started getting suspicious.
An investigation followed, which uncovered Bloom's alleged misdeeds.
Bloom was arrested on May 27 and booked on one count of felony embezzlement. Her bail was listed at $2,500.
Every attempt is being made to audit Bloom's activities and identify any student who may have completed the lifeguard course but did not receive a certificate for successful completion, police said. Five such students have been identified from a course that was offered April 23 through May 30.
Those individuals who may have taken a course at Alf Sorensen Community Center and did not receive certificates of completion for courses similar to the lifeguard instructor course are encouraged to contact Detective Vasquez with the Sparks Police Department at 353-2225.
