RENO — Western Jet Aviation of Van Nuys, Calif., a heavy maintenance center for Gulfstream corporate jets, will be opening a new operation in Reno in the fourth quarter of 2010. It will start its Reno operation with about 10 new jobs but reports that that number could grow to 20. Most of the employees will be hired locally.

Western Jet will operate from an existing hangar at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport that was formerly part of the Jet West complex. Jet West, along with several other fixed base operators, is moving its business from the airport due to airport increasing its hangar rent.

The new lease with Western Jet Aviation will generate about $120,000 per year for the airport.

Allen Eggers, CFO and co-owner of Western Jet said the expansion to Reno will help his company grow for the future.

“Reno is a great community with a terrific business environment,” Eggers said. “A facility in Reno will help us attract business from Northern California, Oregon, Washington and beyond.”

The Gulfstream Aircraft that Western Jet maintains are considered some of the finest aircraft in the skies today. A Gulfstream V has a range of more than 6,000 nautical miles and can sell for more than $45 million.
