RENO — NV Energy on Wednesday donated 11 vehicles from its utility fleet, valued at $111,800, to northern Nevada nonprofit and community organizations.

The agencies picked up the donated vehicles at NV Energy’s fleet services building on Edison Way. Mary Simmons, vice president of external affairs for the utility, presented the keys to the agency representatives. Among the vehicles donated were SUVs, pickups, a bucket truck and backhoe.

While no longer suitable for daily use by NV Energy, the vehicles have been well maintained and are capable of many more miles of light-duty use, according to Jeff McKenzie, team leader of NV Energy’s fleet services department.

Vehicles were donated to the following nonprofit agencies: Sierra Nevada Journeys, High Sierra Industries, Great Basin Institute, American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter, Boys & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows, Children’s Cabinet, city of Ely, Friends in Service Helping (FISH) of Carson City, Douglas County Sheriff’s search and rescue, Mountain View Cemetery and Mineral County Advocates to End Domestic Violence in Hawthorne.

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows was one of the lucky recipients of an NV Energy vehicle donation. We will be using the SUV to transport kids and supplies. Thanks to NV Energy for its generosity in the community!
