RENO — Emergency response plans, policies, and procedures pertaining to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction response will be tested through a three-day field exercise. The exercise is designed to mimic real-life disasters to truly test emergency responders and equipment.
Exercise Sierra Breeze is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It is a cooperative effort with state and local agencies as well as the National Guard in preparing for Homeland Security missions related to weapons of mass destruction. Exercises will include numerous and varied mock potential terror-
related events resulting in the loss of life and exposure to hazardous materials. A schedule of the training is listed below.
The three-day exercise is sponsored by the 92nd Civil Support Team, USARNORTH, Washoe County and the city of Reno. Personnel and other assets are scheduled to participate in the three-day field exercise representing various agencies.
Area residents will see numerous local first responders and civil support teams during the three-day exercise. Scenarios at the locations listed below will appear real in nature in order to accurately test the responders and equipment. The public should be aware that disaster activities at those locations are for the exercise only.
Schedule for Operation Sierra Breeze is as follows:
• Monday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Nevada Air National Guard Base, 1776 National Guard Way, and old Incline Elementary School, 700 Southwood Blvd.
• Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Galena High School, 3600 Butch Cassidy Drive.
• Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Reno-Stead Airport on Petricciani Way between Alpha Avenue and Texas Avenue.
