RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno fire officials say a small brush fire that threatened more than a dozen homes on the west side of town was started by children playing with a cigarette lighter and an aerosol spray can.

Investigators say the unidentified juveniles sparked the fire at about 11 a.m Friday on a hill behind the Washoe Grill on West 4th Street.

About 20 structures were threatened and several homes evacuated voluntarily but none was damaged. Firefighters put the blaze out within minutes. It burned about three acres of grass and shrubs.

Officials say the juveniles will not face criminal charges but their families could be assessed the cost of fighting the fire.
