Frances Capurro, 63, of Sparks died Sunday night after she and her horse were hit by an oncoming car as they rode along Pyramid Highway. According to Washoe County Sheriffs, Capurro’s horse spooked as she was approaching the intersection of Pyramid Highway and Calle de la Platta. The horse darted into oncoming traffic and was struck by a silver Toyota sedan.

Capurro was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where she died of her injuries. The driver of the sedan, Theresa Norman of Reno, left the scene with no life threatening injuries.

Because of severe injuries, Capurro’s horse was put down at the scene by one of the troopers.

The accident investigation is continuing and witnesses are encouraged to call Trooper Eric Gallagher at (775) 689-4661 regarding case # 0806010710.
