TONOPAH — On Sunday, at about 9 a.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a head-on collision on US 6, about 22 miles west of Tonopah near Blair Junction.  Gregory Crain, 51, of North Bend, Ore., was traveling east on the highway driving a white 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer registered to Redmond Transportation of Hollister, Calif.  His teenage son was also riding in the truck with him. Traveling west in a green 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix was a 78-year-old man and his two dogs, believed to be from Carson City.  The elderly man allowed his vehicle to drift into the oncoming lane as it approached the big rig.

Crain braked and swerved toward the right shoulder to avoid a collision. The vehicles collided near the right edge of the eastbound travel lane. The elderly driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene and the two dogs also died in the collision.

Crain and his teenage son each received minor injuries and were transported to Nye Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance where they were treated and released.

The crash is being investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team and anyone with additional information is encouraged to call Trooper Eric Gallagher at (775) 689-4661 regarding case No. NHP-1006060245.
