The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District Office-Sierra Front Field Office, in cooperation with NV Energy, is putting the development of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Blackhawk to Heybourne 120 kV Transmission Line on hold.

NV Energy managers have re-evaluated the need for the transmission line and have determined that the in-service date for the line may not be until 2020. This is a delay of several years from the initial in-service date for the line. The change is a result of newer electricity load projections that do not show the same demand as previous forecasts, which were made prior to the economic crisis of 2008.

If work on the EIS resumes, it will analyze the impacts resulting from construction of a new 120 kV electrical transmission line and two new substations. The transmission lines are proposed to cross federal public lands in portions of Storey, Lyon, Carson City and Douglas counties.
