SPARKS — On Wednesday at 1:45 a.m., Sparks firefighters responded to a reported garage fire at a home located on the 700 block of J Street. The first companies on scene found light smoke coming from the eaves of the single-car garage. Fire crews found extensive heat and smoke in the garage, and a fire located on the workbench. Crews had the fire knocked down and under control within six minutes after arriving on scene.

The cause of the fire was determined to be candles left unattended, which were thought to have been extinguished. There were no reported injuries. Damage estimates were listed as approximately $5,000. Due to the fire damage, the electrical utilities had to be shut off and the occupants were not able to reoccupy the structure.
