SPARKS — The Sparks mayor and City Council welcome community input and service on various boards and commissions.

“We can’t govern alone and need input and expertise from members of our community,” said Mayor Geno Martini.

The following city-appointed positions are currently available:

Sparks Parks and Recreation Commission: Two three-year terms to begin July 1. The commission reviews and provides input on the department budget and parks and recreation programs and recommend improvements to the city’s parks and playgrounds.

Civil Service Commission: One three-year term to begin July 1. The commission provides qualified applicants for employment and to protect employees from discrimination or unfair treatment.

Advisory Committee for the Disabled: Four one-year terms to begin on July 1. The Sparks Advisory Committee for the Disabled promotes awareness and develops accessibility and independence within the city of Sparks for the disabled. The committee works closely with the community to recommend or advise action to the Sparks City Council or other city agencies on any issue concerning the disabled population.

Sparks residents can apply online by accessing the community service application.  Log on to www.cityofsparks.us, click Governing, followed by Boards/Commission/Get Involved or contact the city clerk’s office at 353-2350. The Sparks mayor makes the respective appointments, which must be confirmed by the council.
