‘Artists in Healing I’ at Sierra Arts Gallery in Reno
RENO — The “Artists in Healing I” exhibit at the Sierra Arts Gallery features the work of two University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) students and one graduate.
The students were selected for the exhibition through their participation in the Artist in Residence Program, a unique collaboration between Renown Health and UNSOM. Sponsored by the Healing Arts Program at Renown Health in Reno, this Medical Humanities fourth-year elective provides an extraordinary experience for UNSOM students. It provides an opportunity for the student artists to creatively express their experiences while aesthetically attending to the world of a hospital. The program objectives are to develop artistic skills and appreciation as well as to develop and nurture skills of observation, analysis, empathy and self-reflection.
In 2008, the first year of the program, two student artists were chosen. Kyle Yamamato and Seth Bellister had the opportunity to work with artist and physician mentors from Renown Regional Health. Bellister’s work will be featured in the upcoming exhibition at the Sierra Arts Gallery alongside the work of this year’s program participants, Erica Low and Jillian Wall.

In this way, it makes perfect sense that Needtobreathe’s third album is called “The Outsiders.” The album makes it clear that they embraces this label as both a badge of honor and a battle cry.
