CARSON CITY — Soldiers in the Nevada Army National Guard’s B Company, 1/189th Aviation Company are set to depart for Haiti on Tuesday to begin airlift support for the country as it continues to recover from its massive January earthquake. The company is ready to send about one dozen of soldiers and a CH-47 Chinook helicopter to the island nation to assist with relief supply and cargo airlift missions, troop movements, and medical missions involving the transportation of doctors and nurses.
The Chinook helicopter is set to remain in Haiti through September. Rotation times for Soldiers in and out of Haiti are set to vary from 15 days to about four months. The unit has about 80 Soldiers assigned to it and several dozen soldiers will participate in the upcoming rotations.
This is the Nevada National Guard’s second major mission in support of Haiti. In February, the Nevada Air Guard made two airlift deliveries of relief supplies to Haiti and transported dozens of individuals between Haiti and the United States.
