Greg Proops, the bespectacled comedic genius who stars in the aforementioned popular improvised comedy show “Whose Line Is It, Anyway?” on the ABC Family channel, is coming to Sparks on Saturday.
If you like to laugh until you cry and prefer your comedy spiked with sarcasm, “Sir Proopsalot” is ready to stand and deliver.
The comedian and actor boasts of an international resume as long as Santa’s “naughty” list. Called the “funniest man in L.A.” by Esquire Magazine, Proops brings his show to local clubs and to comedy festivals across the globe.
Proops’ live comedy chat show at the Largo Club in Hollywood has featured such guest comedians as Jack Black, Margaret Cho, Jeff Goldblum and Sarah Silverman.
The experienced stand-up comedian is best known for his antics on “Whose Line?” hosted by Drew Carey, and his unpredictable hilarity in the long-running British version of the same TV show.
His other TV appearances include “Last Comic Standing,” “Chelsea Lately,” “Ugly Betty” and “The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” among many others.
Proops has popped up in surprising places on television and theater screens, providing the personality-packed voices for cartoon Bob the Builder, and in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” “Brother Bear” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
His online autobiography says Proops “cares like Bono” (from the band U2), and has laid his comedy skills on the line for charity, performing for the troops overseas with the USO as part of the Improv All-Stars. Proops also hosted the American Civil Liberties Union’s rally to stop torture with Rep. Dennis Kucinich and the Director of Amnesty International USA.
Comedian Greg Proops performs in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget on Saturday at 8 p.m. Ticket price is $30. To reserve tickets, call the Nugget at 356-3300 or click on www.janugget.com.
