RENO — Gasoline prices in Nevada are inching upward as the summer travel season nears.

AAA Nevada on Tuesday reported that the statewide average for a gallon of self-serve unleaded rose 4 cents to $3 a gallon in May from the month before.

Nationally, the average price is $2.90.

The average price in Las Vegas rose 5 cents to $2.94. In Reno, prices rose 3 cents from April to $3.06.

The most expensive gas in Nevada was found in Elko, where prices rose 4 percent to $3.22.

AAA spokesman Michael Geeser says while prices in Nevada are about 80 cents higher than a year ago, prices have remained relatively stable.
