RENO –– Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks have all proclaimed Saturday as Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup Day. Sens. John Ensign and Harry Reid have also given their senatorial declaration to the day.

Residents can volunteer from 8:30 a.m. to noon at one of 15 different cleanup or weed-pull locations throughout the Truckee Meadows.

Volunteers are still needed at the Dorothy McAlinden, Sun Valley and Golden Valley sites. Volunteers may sign up and choose a location by visiting Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s website at www.ktmb.org or by calling 851-5185.

All will volunteers receive a souvenir water bottle, snacks at the cleanup site and a thank you lunch courtesy of Save Mart Supermarkets and Pepsi immediately following the cleanup at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.

“With the support of the county and the cities we have made great strides in the fight against illegal dumping,” said Christi Cakiroglu, executive director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. “However, we need all residents of the Truckee Meadows to engage in cleanup and education efforts to create a litter-free community. Participating in the Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup is a great event for the whole family and leaves participants feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment at mornings end.”

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is a private non-profit celebrating 20 years of creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement.
