SPARKS — The Sparks Police Department, because of layoffs, will be cutting its front desk hours.

The front desk in the Prater Way building will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The office will be closed Sunday.

The shortened hours come after two front desk people were laid off as a result of Monday’s sweeping budget cuts.

The Sparks police department encourages those with an emergency to call 911.

During those times the front desk is closed, citizens can call 353-2231 for all nonemergencies.

I would be willing to volunteer a few hours a week doing clerical work. How would one know where to offer?
