RENO — The University of Nevada, Reno’s department of Music and Dance presents the spring dance concert held today and Friday at 8 p.m. in Nightingale Concert Hall.

The first half of the concert will showcase students performing new works created by the faculty and guests artists. The second half will feature the Lakota Sioux Indian Dance Theatre presented by Solaris.

Guest artist Taryan Packheiser teaches at Iowa State University and is resetting a piece entitled “Kosma Spaco” for UNR’s dance students.

Faculty works feature choreography by Cari Cunningham, Barbara Land and Jennie Pitts and additional guest artist Kristen Avansino.

Lakota Sioux Indian Dance Theatre was founded at the Rosebud Reseration in South Dakota with the support of traditional Lakota Indian educators, healers, community leaders, championship pow-wow dancers, singers and storytellers. The company creates opportunities for everyone to experience and interpret the holistic world view of the Lakota Sioux Indian people through live performance and education outreach.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students and $12 for seniors and children. Tickets can be purchased at Lawlor Events Center of the Church Fine Arts box office starting at 7 p.m. today and Friday. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.unrschoolofthearts.org or by calling (800)-225-2277.
