SPARKS – Nevada Highway Patrol troopers have identified the couple who died Monday when their truck rolled on Pyramid Highway just south of Serenade Drive.

The white Ford F-350 pickup truck was being driven by 82-year-old Gus Willey and his wife, 70-year-old Hazel Mae Willey, of Reno. Both died at the scene when they were ejected from their truck.

According to the NHP’s investigation, the truck was hit from behind by a green Subaru Outback station wagon, causing the truck to veer of the roadway and roll several times. The Willeys were ejected from the truck before it crashed into the back yard of a nearby resident.

After the two vehicles collided, the Subaru continued south for several hundred feet before it also veered off the right roadway edge. The car hit a rock embankment and rolled over into a 6 foot tall vinyl fence. Both the driver, Richard Thomas Mikulski, 51, of Reno, and the passenger, Robert Frank Mikulski, 67, of Reno, had to be extricated from the car.

The Mikulski brothers were both taken Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. As of Tuesday morning, Richard is in fair condition while Robert is listed in critical condition.

Anyone that witnessed the collision or anyone who may have observed any type of driving pattern of one or both vehicles prior to the event is asked to call Trooper Eric Gallagher of the Major Accident Investigation Team at 689-4661 or the DPS-Communications Center at 687-0400 regarding case No. NHP-1004190884.
