RENO — The Reno Police Department’s traffic plan for Reno Aces home games continues to work, according to Sgt. Jim Stegmaier, who says baseball fans still need to plan on arriving early for parking, and should anticipate heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic near the baseball stadium before and after the game.

Information about downtown parking, and a number of other topics, can be found on the Reno Aces website at www.renoaces.com, and following the “Ballpark” link at the top of the page to the “Ballpark A to Z Guide.”

Stegmaier says pedestrian traffic to and from the ballpark during the first games this year have been orderly and safe with both pedestrians and motorists obeying the laws and moving slowly and safely through the congested areas around the ballpark.

The Reno Police Department’s traffic plan, developed before last year’s opening home game, includes recommendations for fans traveling on U.S. 395 to take the Mill Street exit and follow Mill Street westbound; with those driving on Interstate 80 taking the Virginia Street/Sierra Street exit and traveling southbound on Sierra Street to the downtown area parking and the stadium at Second Street and Evans Avenue.

Stegmaier says additional Reno Police officers are on hand to assist with traffic control. And, he says baseball fans also need to be aware of temporary street closures during home games that include:

• Evans Avenue between Second and Fourth streets will remain closed to through traffic, with local business and residential access only from Fourth Street.

• Kuenzli Street westbound will be closed at Park Street about one hour prior to game time, with westbound traffic detouring southbound onto Park Street.

• Second Street eastbound between Lake Street and Evans Avenue will be closed for about one hour at the conclusion of the baseball game.

• One lane of Second Street westbound, on the south side of the stadium, will be closed for about a block east of Evans Avenue to allow for emergency vehicle staging.
