RENO — A new series of summer day camps at Galena Creek Regional Park this summer gives children ages 8-12 the chance to explore the great outdoors while getting hands-on learning about the importance of protecting local ecosystems.
Camp topics include becoming a naturalist, archaeology, geology, paleontology, weather and climate studies, animal adventures and more.
Galena naturalists from the Great Basin Institute offer the summer day camp series as part of a partnership between the Great Basin Institute and Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space.
Each camp is five days, taking place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A different camp will be offered every week from mid-June until the end of August.
Registrations are due on May 15 but will remain open until the camps fill. Camp sessions cost $195, with a $20 nonrefundable deposit due at the time of registration.
For more information, visit The Great Basin Institute’s Web site at www.gbinstitute.org, e-mail camp@gbinstitute.org or call camp staff at 674-5475, ext. 4.
