Truckee River Flood Project receives double honors

RENO — The first floodwall and levee completed as part of the Truckee River Flood Project plan has received the Outstanding Project of the Year Award for 2010. This project located at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony is a unique public-private partnership among the the cities of Reno and Sparks, Washoe County and the University of Nevada, Reno, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, Walmart and the state of Nevada. The floodwall and levee system is built along 2,500 feet of the south bank of the Truckee River from US 395 to Glendale Avenue.

The Truckee Meadows Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) also selected Eric Scheetz, engineer for the Truckee River Flood Project, as Young Civil Engineer of the Year for 2010. Scheetz is a licensed engineer in both Nevada and California and has more than 13 years of experience in the engineering and construction fields.
