RENO — Police say the man charged with kidnapping Jaycee Dugard and holding her captive for 18 years has been ruled out as a suspect in two unsolved murder cases involving children in Reno.

Reno police Lt. Mike Whan (Juan) says Phillip Garrido was cleared after investigators extensively looked for similarities between the cases and Garrido's method of operation in the Dugard case.

The cold cases included the 1989 murders of two Reno children who vanished near their school bus stop.

Dugard resurfaced last August in California after being snatched near her school bus stop in nearby South Lake Tahoe, Calif., in 1991 at the age of 11.

Whan says detectives have found nothing that would link Garrido to the Reno crimes.
