Discussion about the character statement was held over from the board’s Jan. 13 meeting that lasted about three hours. At that meeting, the CAB members decided to delay discussing the future of the community until the March meeting. At the CAB’s November meeting, Young had addressed the board and told the members that the Washoe County Planning Commission no longer refers to the Spanish Springs Community Character Statement and Area Plan when reviewing new projects and community growth.
Young said this is because the community has outgrown its area plan and character statement and needs to review and revise, if necessary. He added that if the board decides no revisions are needed, than the planning commission would need to know.
The discussion about the area plan and character statement will include the differences between narrowly focused amendments to the area plan versus the pursuit of broad scope projects as well as taking into consideration the timing of future community changes and projects.
Also on the agenda, Washoe County Emergency Manager Aaron Kenneston will give an overview of the county’s Hazards Mitigation Plan. Kenneston will also discuss measures that people should take to prepare for emergency situations. He will also answer questions from board members and citizens.
In addition to country representatives, someone from the Cal Ripken League of Spanish Springs will attend the meeting to talk about the installation of no-spill lighting at the Eagle Canyon Park’s baseball fields.
Furthering the CAB’s discussion on pedestrian access and safety in Spanish Springs, the board will review the pedestrian safety situation and consider what improvements could be made to shopping areas as well as Lazy 5 Regional Park to better accommodate pedestrians.
The CAB meeting will begin at 7 p.m. today at the Lazy 5 Regional Park Community Center located at 7100 Pyramid Highway in Spanish Springs.
