Sparks offers drama classes

SPARKS — Registration is now open for many of the city of Sparks' performance arts classes including: A World of Characters – Explore the elements of drama while placing an emphasis on developing a character through a variety of approaches including improvisation and classical literature. This class is for ages 6 to 8. It will be conducted from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, March 2 through 30 or April 6 through 27. Express Yourself – Radiate and dazzle in the spotlight through theatrical activities designed to enhance creativity, self-confidence and poise while learning techniques for the stage. This class is for ages 9 to 12. It will be taught from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, March 2 through 30 or April 6 through 27. Acting - Discover secrets of the stage through theater games, ensemble exercise and performance in a safe, nurturing environment. Participants will develop essential skills such as body language, vocal expression and spontaneity. This class is for ages 13 to 19. It will be taught from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, March 2 through 30 or April 6 through 27. Creative Expression in Acting – Take an active part in a story, whether you write the script or play a role. Participants will become more eloquent and improve communication style. This class is for ages 9 to 17. It will be taught from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, March 4 through 25 or April 1 through 22. I Love a Mystery – Create the plot, solve the riddle and give a performance while developing acting, production and ensemble skills. This class is for ages 9 to 14. It will be tought from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, March 4 through 25 or April 1 through 22. Shakespeare Performance Project – Serious young performers will explore, understand and experience the art of performing works of the bard with special emphasis on the language of the day. This class is for ages 9 to 16. It will be taught from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, March 4 through 25 or April 1 through 22. All classes will take place at the Recreation Office, 98 Richards Way. The cost per four-week session in March is $42 or $35 for Sparks residents. Rates are scheduled to increase in April to $45 or $38 for Sparks residents. Pre-registration is required online at www.sparksrec.com or by calling 353-2376. Financial assistance is available for children who cannot otherwise participate due to financial limitations.
