RENO –– A 24-year-old Nevada mother has been killed in a crash between a motorhome and another vehicle on Interstate 80 near Fernley.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen says the woman's eight-month-old son was in a car seat in the back and survived the crash. The infant was taken by helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno but he did not appear to sustain any serious injuries.

Allen says the accident in the eastbound lanes happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday about 30 miles east of Reno.

He says the large bus-like motorhome apparently was just beginning to pass the woman in the four-door sedan when for some unknown reason she pulled in front and apparently preparing to make a U-turn in the median.

The motorhome slammed into the car on the driver side and pushed it about 200 feet into the median where both vehicles came to rest. The investigation remains under investigation.

The name and hometown of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her family.
