Reed improved to 16-11 overall and 7-3 in conference clashes. Only Spanish Springs, which drilled McQueen 11-0 Thursday and now sits 7-0 in HDL tilts has a better league record than Reed.
Reed had no trouble disposing of Fallon in the opener of their three-game series. Chelsea Cohen led the way for Reed. The junior right-hander struck out seven in seven innings and did not walk a Greenwave hitter. She allowed just five hits and the one Fallon run was earned.
“I thought Chelsea threw well. They put the ball in play a few times, but I thought she had good command. She didn’t walk anybody,” Reed coach Ray Charles said. “I thought she had good velocity and part of that was the nice weather. It allowed her to cut it loose a little more.”
On the flip side, Reed scored two runs in the first inning and did not let up. Tia Wunder walked and Brooke Silva singled. Both runners scored on an Ali Berry triple.
The Raiders extended their edge to 3-0 with a single run in the third inning. It looked as though Fallon may have slowed the RHS crew down. Greenwave pitcher Kate Pinder retired Reed for scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth innings.
She could not turn the trick again. Reed added three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Tess Oliphant keyed the 3-run sixth with a two-run double and Kristy Pasley did the same in the seventh.
“I was happy with today. Even though they kicked it around a little bit, we hit the ball hard,” Charles said. “Our confidence is gaining. The kids are starting to see the ball well and putting it in play hard.”
Reed and Fallon meet again Saturday in a twin bill at Reed. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
