On Sunday at about 8 p.m., Sparks police officers responded to a report of an assault and battery on Battery Circle. While investigating, officers learned that victims Danny Sandoval, 42, and Shayla Stuart, 33, were at home with Sandoval’s 11-year-old son, whose name is not being released.
The power to the home was switched off and the suspects, Jamie Vallieres, 36, and Melissa Brown, 33, allegedly forced their way into Sandoval’s home.
All four subjects became involved in a fight. The victims could not call 911 immediately because the power was off and all cordless phones were rendered useless.
During this time, Brown, who is the boy’s biological mother, retrieved him from the home. The suspects then left with him.
Information indicated that the suspects were headed to Winnemucca, where Sandoval’s mother lives. Sparks police contacted Winnemucca police, who went to Sandoval’s mother’s house and found Brown, Vallieres and the boy at about 11:30 p.m.
Police took Brown and Vallieres into custody. They were charged with home invasion, burglary and battery. Brown also will be charged with domestic battery.
Police are still determining whether the child will be temporarily placed in Winnemucca or be returned to Sparks.
Police believe much of the dispute stems from the fact that Brown and Vallieres are living in a home owned by Sandoval, who apparently sold the home and is evicting the couple. The investigation will continue.
Sandoval was treated and released for minor injuries at a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
