RENO – Reno firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning apartment in the Fairway Park Manor Apartments on Thursday afternoon. The firefighters confined the fire to the kitchen and dining area, keeping it from spreading to adjacent apartments, according to Reno Battalion Chief Todd Keckley. Reno fire investigators say the fire was the result of unattended food cooking on the stove. The occupant of the second floor apartment at 1280 Berrum Place reportedly left the apartment for a few minutes and returned to find it on fire. He was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene then transported to a local hospital after entering the burning apartment to find his dogs. A neighbor who tried to stop the fire was also treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. A Chihuahua and pet hamster are being cared for by a neighbor. The second dog was treated for smoke inhalation by firefighters who also later taken to a veterinarian.
