Nevada Highway Patrol troopers said that Stowman Mackubbin, 33, from Reen Point, Mont., was driving a 1999 Ford F250 pickup northbound when he allowed the truck to drift off to the shoulder.
Mackubbin over-corrected, crossed both travel lanes in a broadside manner, then traveled down a snow covered embankment and overturned. During rollover, Mackubbin was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt. Mackubbin was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicate driver inattention, speed and alcohol were contributing factors in this accident.
State Route 306 is approximately 40 miles west of Elko and south of Interstate 80. It is the highway that leads to the Cortez Mine.
