“It’s great to know that over 1,000 pets went to loving new homes during the holiday season,” said Denise Stevens, operations director. “We are pleased that the kind people of our community continued to support the homeless pets through pet adoptions in spite of these tough economic times.”
The first pet adopters of 2010 walked into Nevada Humane Society on Jan. 1 and took home not only a new, wonderful family companion, but also a gift basket of pet goodies. Kristen Rolling and her children adopted Winter, a three-month old kitten.
Vrisa Gonzalez-Delavega adopted the first dog, Jax, a young poodle mix.
The first small animal adoption of the new year was Chubster the rat by Chelsey Williams.
Everyone who adopted a pet during the Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive was entered into a free raffle to win a 42-inch HDTV, which was donated by Wal-Mart. The raffle winners were Tessa and Paul Schwerin, who had adopted a gray cat named Dillion on the first day of the drive.
Nevada Humane Society wishes to thank everyone who adopted a pet during the Home 4 the Holidays Adoption Drive and to let everyone know that if you missed out on adopting during the holidays, there are still many wonderful dogs, cats and other pets in the shelter awaiting loving homes.
