SPARKS — On Tuesday at 6:08 p.m., firefighters responded to a reported fire in a residential structure located on the 600 block of 12th Street. The pedestrian who reported the fire said he had seen the couch on fire, and had attempted to extinguish the fire by throwing snow through the front window.  It was not reported if the window was broken by this pedestrian or found this way.

First companies on scene found heavy smoke coming from the structure, and a substantial portion of the living area fully involved in fire. The fire was knocked down within six minutes after arrival of the first engine company. The occupant of the structure was not home at the time of the fire. There was extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the home, and the fire also extended into the attic.

Due to fire and smoke damage, the house will not be able to be occupied. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  No fire damage cost estimates have yet been determined.
