SPARKS — The city on Tuesday announced the parade winners for the Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade. “A Celebration of Angels” was the theme for the 23rd annual event held on Saturday.

This year’s panel of judges named the following as winners in the different categories:

Community Group

1st place – KidBright Team G.L.O.W.

2nd place – Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada, Pah Rah Service Unit

3rd place – Holiday Girls

 Costume Group

1st place – Papa’s Little Angel Band

2nd place – Reed High School Music & Drama Department

3rd place – John Ascuaga’s Nugget

 Floats

1st place – Soul’s Harbor Apostolic Church

2nd place – Sparks Rotary

3rd place – (tie) Kerak Shrine & Sierra Nevada Figure Skating Club

Vehicles

1st place – Thompson Garage Doors

2nd place – Klassic Kruisers of Reno

3rd place – Classic Chevy’s of Reno.

Animals

1st place – Parading Arabians

2nd place – (tie) Silver Knolls Spurs 4-H & N2 Mule Ranch

Nice to see the awards and categories. So now, why not bring back the home decorating contest with categories?

The high school marching bands need to be recognized also.

It's about time somebody won besides Hot August nights every year. And going with catagories is by far the greatest idea yet. Good job judges! Each catagory seems to be a fair choice of winners.
