A head-on crash about three miles south of Gardnerville this morning has left one man dead and another with serious injuries.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers have not released the names of the victims.

The accident has closed both lanes of U.S. 395 in Douglas County near mile marker 18. It is unclear how long the highway will remain closed but the NHP sergeant on scene indicated one lane will open as quickly as possible and alternate north- and southbound traffic around the crash.

The crash happened at about 7:49 a.m. when a pickup truck ran head first into an SUV, troopers said. The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene and the SUV driver was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center for “serious” injuries.
