Engvall began his career on the sitcom “Designing Women.” His fame then climbed when he went on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. But no one knows him for that. The man made his name in comedy with the line “Here’s your sign,” said in a country drawl as he offers signs to people to show them their stupidity after asking an obvious question.
He has appeared on redneck comic Jeff Foxworthy’s Show. Along with Engvall and Foxworthy, Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy make up the Blue Collar Comedy group.
The Texas comedian has been married since 1982 and she regularly appears in his comedy. On his comedy album “Cheap Drunk: An Autobiography,” Engvall describes how his wife subscribed to “Modern Ferret,” since she sometimes buys magazines without looking at what’s in them. His two kids are also the source of some of his material. On the Cheap Drunk album, he describes how his son is the “biggest procrastinator (he) knows.”
“He gets up in his bathroom, ‘cause he has go to the bathroom again. And I don’t even think he has to go; I think he just enjoys the comfort of that seat. It’s like his La-Z-Boy rocker,” Engvall says on the album.
Engvall was the star of The Bill Engvall Show from 2007 to 2009 and is still creating comedy albums and touring.
