The city of Reno's Neighborhood Advisory Boards (NABs) are showing support for services and programs aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as offering counseling and other services to those who have AIDS or been exposed to the AIDS virus. The NABs in Wards One ($1,000), Two Central ($1,000), Two South ($500), Three ($1,000), Five Northwest ($1,500), and Five Old Northwest ($1,500) approved a request for a total of $6,500 in Community Pride Grand funds to be given to the African-American Community Cultural Education Programs and Testing (A.C.C.E.P.T) group to provide prevention-intervention and support services and resources for HIV testing and AIDS programs. Community Pride Grant funding is designed to be used for neighborhood-specific projects. The funds are generally intended for projects that are short-term in nature and quick to implement. The Neighborhood Advisory Board makes recommendations regarding these funds, which require final approval from the Reno City Council. The Council provided final approval to this request on Wednesday.
