Tribune/Debra Reid - A Republican Party postcard incorrectly named her caucus location as McQueen High School instead of Reed High, said Washoe County resident Jennifer Terhune. The misinformation may confuse voters and reduce caucus participation, said Terhune, Nevada Communications Coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign.

Charles and Joanne Baird were a little confused by their mail.

Because of a printing error the couple, along with other Republican voters in Washoe County, received incorrect precinct locations on party post cards.

“First we got the postcard telling us to go Reed (High School),” Charles Baird said. “Then we got a recorded telephone call from the Republican party to our home telling us to go to McQueen. Then a neighbor told us that we should go to the Sommerset Community center.”

Charles Baird said he still planned on participating in the caucus, if only he knew where to go.

“Basically what happened was we sent all the names to a printing house to have the postcards printed,” said Heidi Smith, Washoe County Republican committee chairperson. “Then the printing house sent them out (to voters). Somehow the printing house switched up the precincts and locations. Some people in Incline were going to Gerlach to vote.”

The printer since sent out new cards with the correct information to Washoe County voters, Smith said, and they should have received them by Thursday.

Voters are encouraged to visit the Washoe County Republican Web site at www.washoecountygop.org to verify their precinct location.

Voters who verified their caucus location on this Web site have always been given the correct information according to Dan Burk, assistant Washoe County Registrar. However, voters who looked up their caucus location on the state’s Web site at www.nvgopcaucus.com might want to check again.

The Web site was reporting incorrect locations until Wednesday night when the error was corrected.

Smith said that the Web site now reports accurate locations.

“If they do go to the wrong high schools we have provisions for those people,” Smith said.

Each precinct location will have forms to allow those people who went to the wrong precinct to participate in the caucus.

“I am going to be anxious to see the turnout,” Smith said. “I don’t think what happened will affect the turnout too much because we have ways to let these people participate,” Smith said.

“As far as Washoe County we will be ok,” Smith said.

The Washoe County Web site also encouraged voters in the following precincts to double check their caucus location because of recent changes.
